Tractor victims cremated en masse
JANAKPUR, NOV 12 -
Eighteen villagers killed on Thursday’s tractor crash in Bharaul, Sunsari, were cremated en masse on the banks of Hardinath River at Tarapati Sirsiya VDC in Dhanusha district on Friday. Hundreds of people attended the cremation.
An overcrowded tractor carrying Hindu pilgrims had plunged into the Chatara Canal in Bharaul-2 on Thursday, killing 18 and injuring many others. The victims were residents of Pathara settlement of Ward No 4 and 5 in Tarapati Sirsiya, Dhanusha.
One Hukum Yadav lost 10 of his close relatives in the tragic mishap.
The funeral pyres were set up in a row on the river banks. Friends, relatives, neighbours and other locals who gathered there were speechless. “May nobody undergo such a heart-rending situation,” said one Rajendra Sahani who came from Baghchauda some 15 kilometres away from the mourning village.
Lawmakers Raghubir Mahaseth, Juli Mahaseth, Ramkrishna Yadav, Mahendra Yadav and Ramsaroj Yadav, Nepali Congress leader Chandra Mohan Yadav, along with Chief District Officer Birendra Kumar Yadav and security chiefs, were present during the cremation.
