One dies, two hurt in Nepalgunj blast

NEPALGUNJ, NOV 08 - An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off in a house at Nepalgunj-12 in Banke district on Tuesday, killing a man and injuring two others. Police claimed the incident occurred when the victims were making bombs.

Twenty-four-year-old Baburam Kashyap, who sustained serious injuries in the blast, died undergoing treatment in the Bheri Zonal Hospital, Nepalgunj. Two others--Shalikram Kashyap, 22, and Ballu Mourya, 27--were also taken to the hospital soon after the incident.

Doctors said the injured are in critical condition. They have been referred to Lucknow, India, for treatment.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Udaya Tamang, the blast occured when the youths were making the IED in the kitchen. The hands and legs of the dead have been mutiliated in the explosion.

Local people immediately informed the police of the blast.

Police said they recovered socket bomb shrapnels and gunpowder from the site.

The house where the blast happened belongs to Prem Bahadur Shah. The house owner is currently living in the Capital letting the house to one Udit Kashyap, the father of Shalikram.

According to the locals, Kashyap is an activist of the Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist). Kashyap said he had no knowledge of the incident.
