CC chair for six-month extension of CA
KATHMANDU, NOV 06 - Chairman of the Constitutional Committee (CC), Nilambar Acharya has claimed that a new constitution would be promulgated within the next six months. He further claimed that a general election would also be conducted within a year.
Speaking at the Reporter’s Club on Sunday, the CC chair said that the seven-point agreement on the peace process has paved way for the promulgation of a new statute.
He stressed on the need for extension of the Constituent Assembly (CA) by six months in order to end the transitional period in the nation.
“The CA tenure should be extended by six months in order to promulgate a constitution,” said Acharya. “The republic would be institutionalised in the next six months after conducting a general election.”
He added that the political parties have already inched closer towards consensus on the disputed issues of constitution-writing, such as forms of governance and electoral system.
