KATHMANDU, NOV 01 -

Top guns of three major political parties have reiterated commitment to concluding the peace process and constitution-writing at the earliest.

Speaking at a tea reception organised by the UCPN (Maoist) at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu on Monday, party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said recent talks among the political parties had been successful in mitigating distrust existing among them regarding peace process and constitution-writing.

Stating that the latest activities within his party had made many people anxious, Dahal said he would not let the party split under any circumstances.

“As the biggest party in the Constituent Assembly, we will complete the peace process and constitution-drafting at any cost,” Dahal said. “For that, everyone should contribute from their side.”

NC President Koirala said political parties were inching closer to consensus. “We will fulfil the dreams of Nepali citizens by showing utmost flexibility to complete the tasks of peace process and constitution-drafting,” Koirala said.

At the function, UML Chairman Khanal stressed common minimum understanding among the parties to give momentum to the peace and constitution-writing process.

“Everyone should make peace and constitution their sole aim,” Khanal said, expressing confidence that the ongoing talks among political parties would bear fruit.

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar maintained that political parties have no alternative to concluding peace process and constitution-writing. The Maoists hosted the tea reception to exchange greetings on the occasion of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals.

Prime Minster Baburam Bhattarai, CA Chairman Subas Nembang, leaders of political parties and lawmakers, among others, attended the function.
