Maoist leaders discuss contentious issues
KATHMANDU, OCT 30 - In an attempt to settle the contentious issues relating to the peace process, top brass leaders of the UCPN (Maoist) held discussions on Sunday morning.
As the Novemeber 30 deadline of the Constituent Assembly (CA) draws near, the major political parties have been intensifying internal and external parleys to forge consensus on the peace and constitution drafting.
The meeting held at the residence of Maoist Standing Committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara in Sukedhara, Kathmandu, lasted for about one-and-half hours. The the Maoist leaders agreed to iron out the internal and and intra-party differences and give momentum to the peace process.
The hard-line faction of the Maoists led by Vice Chariman Mohan Baidya argued in the meeting that the processes of peace and constitution drafting should be carried out simultaneously, sources said.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has been under intense pressure from the Nepali Congress and the hard-line faction of his own party after the former floated the idea to initiate the constitution drafting only after the completion of the peace process.
