KATHMANDU, OCT 25 - The UCPN (Maoist) Standing Committee meeting ended inconclusively on Tuesday.

The party had summoned the meeting at its party headquarters in Paris Dada, Kathmandu today, to settle the raging debate within the party over the signing of the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) between Nepal and India.

The Maoist faction led by Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya highly criticised the BIPPA in the meeting, sources said.

It has been reported that the meeting also dwelt on the issues regarding Maoist General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa’s accusations against party Chairman Dahal and Secretary CP Gajurel’s earlier warning that Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai could be expelled from the party.

Thapa had accused Dahal of having links with Indian intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Likewise, Gajurel, at a programme in Sindhuli earlier today, had remarked that Chairman Dahal and Vice Chairman and PM Bhattarai, who abandoned the revolutionary path, do not have the right to stay in the party. He had said the leaders giving up the path to revolution should be relieved from the party.

The next Standing Committee meeting has been summoned for Wednesday at 8 am.

Earlier, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had consulted his party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal regarding the row over BIPPA.

In the meeting held at Dahal’s residence in Naya Bazar, Kathmandu earlier today, the duo held talks on PM’s India visit and internal differences within the party, sources said.

The Maoist faction led by Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya has taken strong exception to inking of the investment promotion and protection agreement between Nepal and India. The hard-line faction of the Maoists led by Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya have been intensifying attacks on party establishment faction for inking the BIPPA during recently-concluded visit of party Vice Chairman and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.
