Special Committee to conduct fresh head count
KATHMANDU, OCT 20 - The Special Committee for Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of Maoist Combatants Thursday decided to send a team to conduct a fresh count of the comabatants at the seven cantonment sites and the 21 satellite cantonements.
The decision came at a time when the major parties are having vigorous discussions about forging consensus on the peace process.
The SC meeting held right after the meeting of the top leaders at the prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar this morning decided to send the team to verify the statistics given by UNMIN earlier, SC member Jitendra Dev informed.
"The team will tally the number of combatants with that given by UNMIN in 2007," said Dev. The UNMIN's statistic has put the combatants' number at 19602.
