Lumbini Development Committee formed under Dahal's leadership
Govt declares 2012 as 'Lumbini Visit Year'
KATHMANDU, OCT 17 - The government has formed Broader Lumbini Development National Director Committee under the leadership of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
A Cabinet meeting held on Monday formed took the decision to this effect while declaring ‘Lumbini Visit Year 2012’.
The six-member committee includes CPN-UML leader Mangal Siddhi Manandhar, Nepali Congress leader Minendra Rijal, Forest Minister Mohammad Wakil Musalman, among other leaders.
Likewise, the committee has been given the authority to draft a master plan to develop Lumbini as a peaceful and tourism area and table the proposal. It has also been given the responsibility to garner international support for the same.
Chairman Dahal is also one of the joint chairmen of Hong Kong-based Non Governmental Organisation Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (APEC), which was said to have pledged to spend $3bn for the development of Lumbini—the birth place of Lord Buddha.
Moreover, the government has also decided to organise National Games in the far western districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur from February 26 to March 4 next year.
Also today, the government appointed Baburam Shrestha as the executive director of Securities Board of Nepal, Joint Secretary at the Forest Ministry Ram Prasad Lamsal as TCN Chairman, and Harihar Sigdel as the chairman of Jadibuti Prashodhan Kendra. All the appointees were selected through open competition.
