Dalits demand action against VDC secretary
SIRAHA, OCT 14 -
Dalit community staged a sit-in in front of the Sitapur VDC office in Lahan, Siraha,
on Thursday demanding action against the VDC secretary and the assistant technician alleging their involvement in misappropriation of social security allowance.
The agitators claimed that VDC Secretary Bibek Chandra Karki and Assistant Technician Pheku Yadav had misappropriated around Rs 1.7 million meant for 70 people entitled to various allowances. They said the needy were deprived of the allowance for the past three years.
“We repeatedly urged the duo to return the money, but no avail. Thus our protest,” said Chandrakalawati Ram.
They also filed complaints about the misappropriation in the District Administration Office and the District Development Committee. They accused have not been arrested. The government grants allowances to the elderly, the differently abled, Dalit children and single women.
According to the VDC, 312 people including 241 elderly, 70 single women and one differently abled are entitled to the allowance under its administration.
