KATHMANDU, OCT 13 - Family members of the late Hindu Yuva Sangh leader Kashi Tiwari have accused Nagendra Jha, the former CDO of Parsa and the Executive Director at the Home Ministry, of attempting to bribe them Rs 800,000 for keeping their mouth shut. Jha, however, has rubbished the charges.

In a press conference organised by the Tiwari family here on Wednesday, 25-year-old Babita, Tiwari's widow, said Jha offered her the money and asked her not to drag Land Reforms and Management Minister Prabhu Sah into the murder case.

Babita said she came to Kathmandu from Parsa on Monday evening with her brother in law Prayag Tiwari and Senior Advisor of the Hindu Yuva Sangh, Jyoti Lal Shah, after Jha started pressing her to withdraw the allegations against the minister and others.

On Tuesday morning, Jha allegedly delivered her the cash and other assurances, including further financial support as compensation from the government within 10 days and a martyr's status to Tiwari.

In return, she was to say in front of the prime minister that she did not know who was behind the murder, according to her. Babita and Prayag said they have the cash as proof and could produce it anytime to help investigations.

Babita further said she was invited to the PM's office on Tuesday afternoon, but she did not go there.

"The past 10 years since my husband's death, no one from the government's side came to help us. Now, when Minister Prabhu Shah has been dragged into the crime, Jha and others are approaching us with offers of compensation to suppress the case," Babita said. "I don't need any compensation. What I need is justice."

Jyoti Lal Shah said they will submit a memorandum to leaders of political parties seeking help in their struggle for justice.

Nagendra Jha, however, rubbished the charges. “This is all nonsense. Why will I give them money? They are doing all this to express their dissatisfaction.”
