Tourism secy addresses UNTWO General Assembly
KATHMANDU, OCT 12 - Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ganesh Raj Joshi said that Nepal was much concerned with the adverse impacts of climate change.
Addressing the 19th session of the General Assembly of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in Gyeongju, Korea, Joshi said, “Like many least developed and mountainous countries, Nepal is very much concerned with the adverse impacts of climate change.”
“Nepali tourism based on the motivation of fragile physical settings of natural environment is looking the ways and means nationally and globally to enhance the level of understanding and support fro mitigation and adaptation to this adverse impact,” a statement issued by the Nepal Tourism Board quoted Joshi as telling at the three-day assembly that ended on Tuesday.
Elaborating the objectives behind celebrating Nepal Tourism Year 2011, he said that Nepal has undergone a historic political transformation from a monarchical system to a democratic federal republican system, people of Nepal have high hopes and expectations from this new setup though we are still in the process of institutionalising the achievements through drafting a new constitution.
He called on the UNWTO, donors, private sectors and international financial institutions to play an active role to enhance tourism industry among member countries, the statement further read.
