33 VDC secys resign en masse

KHANDBARI, OCT 12 - Secretaries of 33 VDCs of Sankhusabha district resigned en masse on Wednesday after the Kirat Janajati Workers Party (KJWP) issued death threat to them.

The secretaries handed over their resignation letters to Local Development Officer today. On September 16, chairman of KJWP, Yalambar Kirati, had issued letters to the VDC secretaries threatening to kill them if they did not resign.

In the joint resignation letter, the VDC secretaries have demanded the authority ensure their security.

According to Prem Bahadur Shrestha, Syabuwan VDC Secretary, they (the VDC secretaries) resigned following repeated threats by the party.

“They asked us to resign after it failed to forge an agreement with the government,” he said. . The secretaries have said that they would not return back to the villages unless the issue was settled and the government created a secure and favourable working environment in their respective villages.

In the letter sent to VDC secretaries, the Kirati party warned the secretaries to be ready to face the consequences if they did not resign.

Chairman of VDC Secretary Rights Protection Centre, Govinda Ghimire said the secretaries were at the receiving end.

Last month an explosion was carried out at Jaljala VDC in the name of Khumbuwan Mukti Morcha, an underground outfit.
