Rautahat out of gear in support of tainted minister

KATHMANDU/BARA, OCT 11 -
Supporters of Minister for Land Reform and Management Prabhu Sah have resorted to protest after police put him in the suspect list behind the murder of Hindu Yuba Sangh leader Kashi Tiwari. Protests sparked in Parsa, Bara and Rautahat districts on Tuesday.
Sah's supporters took out an anti-police rallies in Birgunj of Parsa demanding that the charge leveled against the Maoist minister be dropped immediately. They also demanded the police uphold rule of law and respect human rights. A sister organisation of the UCPN (Maoist) imposed a banda in Rautahat which affected life in the district. Vehicular movement was shut throughout the day. The protesters have also called for a transport strike along the East-West Highway on Wednesday to exert pressure on the police to drop the charge against Minister Sah.

Meanwhile, Maoist activists burnt copies of Kantipur daily in Simra of Bara for publishing news story on Minister Sah's alleged involvement in Tiwari's murder. A few copies of Kantipur were torched in Rautahat as well. Federation of Nepalese Jornalists, Rautahat, condemned the incident.
