RAJBIRAJ, OCT 11 - A 10-year-old shoolboy, Pawan Kumar Mandal, of Jamuni Madhepura VDC, was found dead on Tuesday. It has been suspected that the boy might have been murdered by an unknown gang of ransom kidnappers.

Mandal, who was studying in the fifth standard at Janata Secondary School, was kidnapped by an unidentified group on Saturday and later his family was asked for a ransom over phone.

Locals had found his body near the Godh Daha River. Eyewitnesses said the boy could have been strangled to death. However, the circumstances leading to the murder would be determined only after the post mortem on the body.

Mandal’s father, Kishor, mother, Lila Devi and aunt, Murti Devi fell unconscious after hearing the news. They are currently receiving medical attention at Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj.

According to Pawan’s uncle, there was a call at his father’s mobile phone stating that Pawan has been abducted and the family would have to pay a ransom of Rs 500,000 for his safe release.

However, Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office Saptari, Ganesh Bahadur Thapa Chhetri said that Pawan might not have been abducted and killed for ransom. He said that the murder could have been carried out to take revenge by some local.

“We are investigating into the matter. Primary investigation has shown that Pawan’s murder has been conducted with the aid of some locals, said Chhetri.

Police has arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in the killing. They are currently being detained at District Police Office Saptari for further interrogation.
