OCT 05 - The ninth day of Dashain, Maha Nawami, was observed throughout the nation on Wednesday.
Goddess Durga’s incarnation as Goddess Laxmi is worshipped today. There is a tradition of worshiping automobiles by sacrificing animals and vegetables to mark this day.
People visited different temples nationwide to offer prayers to the goddess of wealth, peace and prosperity. Among the temples in the valley being attended to by worshippers are Dakshinkali, Guheshwori, Maitidevi, Kalikasthan, Naxal Bhagwati, Bhadrakali, Bijeshwori, Indrayani, Raktakali, Bajrayogini, Sankata and Bajrabarahi.
The Tajelu Bhawani Temple in the Capital was opened for the special occasion so as to allow the general public to pay obesance. Traditionally, the temple remains closed for the rest of the year, and is only opened for this day of Dashain.
The ‘Jamara’, which are sown on the first day of Dashain, are also offered to the goddess today.
People are making merry by playing cards with their family and friends besides making preparations for Dashami—the tenth day of Dashin when the people gather to put tika and receive blessings from their elder ones.
