NC demands Maoists clear stance on army integration
KATHMANDU, OCT 03 -
Main opposition party Nepali Congress has urged the UCPN (Maoist) to come clear on its stance regarding the integration of its army.
The NC has urged the Maoist either to form a separate directorate under the Nepal Army or opt other options for the integration.
Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal, who had gone to the NC President Sushil Koirala’s residence at Maharajgunj on Monday morning, was recommended by the NC leaders to muster clear roadmap regarding the integration of its combatants.
NC President Koirala also urged the Maoist chair to elucidate its notion on the peace process. During the meeting, Dahal agreed to form a separate directorate under the NA but was reluctant to accept all the proposals made by the NA on army integration.
Emerging from the meeting, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said his party was on the side of shouldering any one between the formation of directorate or integration as per the peace process.
‘We should either accept the proposals made by the directorate or move ahead as per the agreement signed in the peace process’, Poudel said.
Following the meeting, the top guns of Maoist and NC carried a common view of holding a three party meeting hoping to form a consensus shortly after the Dashain festival to clear the way for special committee to take a decision on army integration.
The issues regarding the peace process were halted after NC turned down the package-proposal of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai before his visit to the US.
