BAWS marks World Rabies Day

BHAKTAPUR, SEP 24 -

Bhaktapur Animal Welfare Society (BAWS) in collaboration with Ryderz of Bhaktapur (R.O.B) organised a Mass Anti Rabies Vaccination (MARV) programme to mark World Rabies Day 2011 in Bhaktapur on Saturday.

The event was supported by Bhaktapur Brick Factory Association and local Sunita Kawan of Bhaktapur.

The event mainly focused on three sites - Sallaghari, Siddhapokhari and Khauma (Tourist Buspark) areas of the city.

According to Dr. Pranav Raj Joshi, Veterinary Clinician of BAWS, a total of 150 street and community dogs (including a cat) were vaccinated during the programme. The vaccinated dogs were marked with a red patch on their body for the identification.

Also, the team led by Suresh Kawan (R.O.B. Social event manager) and Dr. Joshi distributed the awareness documents (posters, banners, stickers) in the local market, gathering places, public transport and schools within the city, on Sept 22, 23, for the promotion.  

This event was a joint effort of youth initiated BAWS and R.O.B with the slogan “Common Effort for A Noble Cause”, for the society.

During the programme, Bijay Ratna Bajracharya, R.O.B President said the event was mainly focused on creating awareness among the community regarding fatal disease - Rabies.
