PM Bhattarai addresses high level meetings in New York
KATHMANDU, SEP 21 -
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai addressed the high level meeting on nutrition at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
In his first high level address, Prime Minister Bhattarai informed that there has been significant decrease in child mortality rate in the nation.
During the meeting hosted by UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, Bhattarai said, "Child mortality has been decreased from 91 to 54 in a decade."
He also said that the government is concerned about the heath condition of children and women.
Likewise, Bhattarai also addressed a private sector forum on the theme 'Sustainable Energy for All: Water, Food and Energy Security yesterday.
He also addressed a meeting on ‘Every Women and Every Child’ hosted by the UN General Secretary on the same day.
Prime Minister Bhattarai left for New York on Sunday night to attend the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Today, the PM will attend a reception hosted by US President Barrack Obama and start bilateral meetings with leaders until September 23. The PM will address the UNGA on September 24 and return home on 26.
During his stay, Bhattarai is scheduled to meet at least a dozen heads of states and governments including the prime ministers of India and China and other visiting delegates form region and across the globe.
Bhattarai will hold talks with visiting leaders of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) as the chair of the LDC coordination bureau.
