KATHMANDU, SEP 21 - UCPN (Maoist) Secretary and Energy Minister Posta Bahadur Bogati has declared that the government would take ahead the categorization of Maoist combatants unilaterally even if the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML do not come to terms on the same.

“Out of obligation, the government will initiate the regrouping of the Maoist combatants in a unilateral manner by finalizing the numbers, though there should be an agreement on the peace and constitution writing process,” said the minister, speaking at a programme in the Reporter’s club. “This will create pressure on all the stakeholders.”

While claiming that the peace process won’t stop due to the Maoists, Minister Bogati alleged that the peace process would face hurdle only due to the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.

“Congress and UML do want the peace. If they do not come to terms, the government would move head alone,” he said.

He remarked that four-point deal would not be scrapped at any cost as the government was formed on the foundation of its. He went on to claim that the four-point deal was committed to the peace and statute-drafting process. He claimed that the future would tell if the four-point deal was anti-national or not.

At the same programme, Nepali Congress leader and Army Integration Special Committee member Ram Sharan Mahat said the peace process would be possible only on the basis of peace process.

Leader Mahat said the plan to take ahead the peace process in a unilateral manner, as claimed by the Maoists, was like waiting for the fruit in the sky.

There should be a package deal on integration modality, ranking, responsibility and rehabilitation before initiating the regrouping process, Mahat said. He added the claim by the Maoist leaders that the regrouping process would be initiated unilaterally was just a plot to deceive the people.

The NC leader remarked that the government under the leadership of Baburam Bhattarai would not be successful. He further claimed that a new government under the leadership of Congress would be formed very soon and that would take ahead the peace and constitution writing process.
