Head constable gunned down, killer killed in police action
BARA, SEP 19 -
A group of four assailants gunned down a police head constable at Sanphulawa in Bara's Badaki Phulbariya VDC-8 on Monday.
The motorcycle-borne assailants shot Rahesh Raut Kurmi at the Sanphulawa Police Office, at around 8:45 am. One of the armed men was also killed in police action later.
The victim sustained fatal bullet injuries in his head. The critically injured cop was airlifted to Kathmandu where he died during treatment at Birendra Police Hospital.
Kurmi, 30, was in civvies when the assailants shot him. He was the lone police official at the incident site. Police said members of the Janatantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Party, an armed outfit, were involved in the attack.
The villagers took two of the assailants under control while two others fled the scene. A police team that reached the site later shot Jaya Mangal Yadav in his effort to escape villagers' grip. Police have held on Mishri Lal Yadav.
