BIRATNAGAR, SEP 17 - Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar has remarked that he would make all the security agencies and the Home Ministry free from political intervention and corruption.

The home minister’s statement comes a day after the transfer of Home Secretary Lilamani Poudel following some disagreements with Gachhadar.

Talking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport on Saturday, Minister Gachhadar said there is no difference with any other coalition partners while transferring Home Secretary Poudel. He defended the government move saying that the decision to transfer the home secretary was made in view of the sensitive nature of Home Ministry.

He reasserted that he would not meddle in the bureaucracy and would bring down the corruption in all the offices under the Home Ministry to zero level.

Saying that SSPs and Inspectors of Nepal Police have not been transferred for the past two and a half years, Minister Gachhadar informed a criteria would be prepared for the overdue transfers.

At a time when rumors are making rounds that there would be financial dealings for the transfers of high-level police officers, Minister Gachhadar challenged to make public the incidents of corruption and smuggling.

Poudel, who is considered a bureaucrat with clean-image and integrity, was transferred to Prime Ministers’ Office on Friday. The transfer decision raised questions over PM Baburam Bhattarai’s commitment not to transfer any high-level government officials at least for few months.
