KATHMANDU, SEP 17 - UCPN (Maoist) advisor and ex-minister Radha Krishna Mainali said Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai gambled by leading a majority government. He added PM Bhattarai gambled as he mustered his courage to complete the twin tasks of peace and statute drafting processes with a “weak” coalition—the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha.

“Bhattarai is gambling by leading the majority government,” Mainali told eKantipur. “I see a very slim chance of his [Bhattarai] success.”

Mainali claimed that Madhes-based parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML as opposition parties and international forces (especially India), would topple Bhattarai’s government.

“The intention of the NC and the UML is to make Bhattarai unsuccessful,” said the Maoist leader.

He remarked that the existence of the Constituent Assembly would end if Prime Minster Bhattarai fails to complete the peace process and promulgate a new constitution.

Saying that Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has a big-hand in the election of Bhattarai as the new prime minister, Mainaili lauded the “sacrifices” made by Dahal.

“Ganeshman [late NC leader Ganesh Man Singh] promulgated the 1990 constitution by making Kishun Ji [late NC leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai] the prime minister, Soniya Gandhi became the real leader by offering the post of prime minister to Manmohan Singh,” said the former Minister. “Dahal has embraced this path.”
