UML dubs Bhattarai-led govt as ‘opportunist coalition’
KATHMANDU, SEP 16 - The 11th Central Committee (CC) meeting of the CPN-UML concluded here at the party headquarters in Balkhu on Friday, endorsing a five-point political proposal on peace, constitution and government.
Dubbing the current government led by Baburam Bhattarai as “opportunist alliance”, the UML concluded that the peace and constitution writing processes would not be concluded by this government.
The meeting was convened to discuss range of issues including the current political situation and party’s internal issues.
The UML has stressed on the need for a “national consensus” to conclude the twin tasks of peace and constitution writing. The CC meeting underlined that there should be clear grounds to conclude the peace process as the constitution drafting would not be completed unless the peace is completed.
The party strongly criticised the four-point deal between the Maoists and Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Mocrha, saying that the agreement would give impetus to impunity and have long-term repercussion.
Meanwhile, the UML CC has finalised the date for holding the meeting of National Representatives Council, the second largest body of the party. The council meeting has been slated for December (8-11), aiming to bring 200,000 party cadres in the Capital.
Wrapping up the party CC meet, Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said the meeting would further strengthen the party unity in the days to come. He said the meeting concluded amicably.
During Friday’s meeting, the UML CC took up the problems that have cropped up in various sister organisations of the party, central commission report, report of financial department, Constituent-Assembly Parliamentary board and amendment of party statute, among other issues.
