PM reluctant to appoint state ministers
KATHMANDU, SEP 16 - In what could be another bid to become an exemplary leader, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has reportedly shown reluctance to induct state ministers in his Cabinet.
Bhattarai did not administer the ministerial oath to two candidates nominated for the post of state ministers for two times. The swearing-in ceremony of the state ministers from Madhesi Janadhikar Fourm-Loktantrik was halted on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon.
“The swearing-in did not take place today,” PM’s assistant told eKantipur on Friday. “It could take place tomorrow or day after tomorrow but PM is in favour of excluding the state ministers.”
PM Bhattarai had earlier, during the talks with Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), stressed on the small-sized Cabinet. However, the parties aligned with SLMM have been pressurizing the PM to appoint state ministers.
MJF-L had recommended the names of Bhim Raj Rajbanshi as State Minister for Home, Ram Bachhan Yadav as State Minister for Defense, Laxman Mehata as State Minster for Forest and Durga Devi Mahato as State Minister for Environment.
The names recommended for state ministers by other parties of SLMM are yet to be publicised.
