CHARIKOT, SEP 03 - CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel on Saturday said his party would support the current government on the basis of “merit and demerit.”

Extending his congratulations to UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattari, the UML general secretary clarified that his party would not obstruct this government.

“How can he [Bhattarai] move ahead with a coalition with Mahes-based parties, his own party’s internal rift and without the larger parties—the Nepali Congress and the UML—in the government,” said Pokharel, speaking at a programme organised in Dolakha district today.  “I am not trying to speak profane words but good luck to Baburam ji.”

He claimed that the “unholy” coalition with the Madhes-based parties would not last long.

Pokharel added that his party would play a role of creative opposition and support the Bhattarai-led government.
