Festive season: Sculptors are busy carving out deities
PARSA, SEP 03 -
As various festivals such as Bishwakarma puja, Dashain, Tihar and Chhath are around the corner, sculptors are busy making idols of different deities in Parsa district.
Mud and straw sculptures of various gods and goddess are worshiped in the district during the festivals.
Around a dozen sculptors are making statues in Chhapakaiya, Gita temple, Murli, Nagawa and Mina bazaar areas.
Ramananda Pandit, who hails from India, said he is much busier in sculpting idols this year than previous years.
Having been involved in the business for the past four decades, Pandit said he earns Rs 40,000 from making around 100 idols in this festive season.
Another sculptor Ram Narayan Prajajati said one statue fetches up to Rs 2,500. Materials such as mud, straw and colours are used to prepare such works of art.
Prajajati said one trailer of mud and straws are used in making 100 such statues.
People also from India come here to purchase sculptures of gods and goddesses, he added.
