Bhattarai urges UML to join govt, Khanal rejects proposal
KATHMANDU, AUG 31 -
Newly elected Prime Minister Bauburam Bhattarai has intensified political consultations in a bid to forge consensus to expand the Cabinet. He has urged the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to join the government.
PM Bhattarai, who met NC President Sushil Koirala on Tuesday, held consultation with outgoing Prime Minister and UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal on Wednesday morning.
Bhattarai reached Khanal's residence in Dallu this morning and urged him to join the government and assist in the peace process and timely statute.
In response, Khanal said the UML can not join the newly formed government. However, he assured to assist in the peace process and constitution drafting.
"The present government cannot be turned into a consensus one," Khanal said.
He added that coming three months period would be very crucial in Nepali politics.
