Police, kidnappers exchange fire in Thamel
KATHMANDU, AUG 30 - Police personnel exchanged fire with kidnappers in Thamel, Kathmandu on Tuesday in an attempt to free an abducted businessman. A person from the kidnappers’ side was injured after he sustained a bullet during the shootout.
The injured identified as Sheetal Tuladhar has been taken to hospital following the incident.
However, the police succeeded to safely release the Singapore-based businessman, Govinda Bahadur Karki, who was abducted two days ago.
Police personnel headed from Metropolitan Police Investigation Division fired at the kidnappers in retaliation after the latter provoked by opening fire first while the team reached the incident to rescue the businessman. The police was tipped that the businessman was held hostage at Hotel Sailun.
Police said they have arrested the other two involved in the abduction.
They have been identified as Kushal Shakya and Ashish Mukhiya.
