Civil society to launch pressure drive
KATHMANDU, AUG 21 - Half a dozen civil society activists have decided to launch a nationwide campaign to pressure parties for the formation of a national consensus government.
They also stressed the need for strong alliance among civil society members.
“We are set to launch phase-wise programmes to pile pressure on the government from August 27 for timely conclusion of the peace and constitution writing processes,” said human right activist Sudip Pathak at a function organised by Professional Alliance for Peace and Democracy.
He also accused the political leaders of hankering after power.
Formation of a national consensus government is necessary to conclude the peace process, draft a new constitution and carry out PLA integration within the stipulated timeframe, they stressed.
Pathak, also the chairman of Human Rights Organisation of Nepal, said the civil society would hold a national gathering on August 27 and plans to picket the Constituent Assembly building to mount pressure on CA members for timely drafting of the constitution.
Civil society leaders Kedar Narsingh KC, Bin Bishwakarma, Mohan Gyawali, Renu Rajbhandari and Gunanidhi Poudel also spoke on the occasion.
