Big three committed to form nat’l consensus govt

KATHMANDU, AUG 19 - Top guns of the major three parties have expressed their commitment to form a national consensus government.

Acknowledging the fact that only a national consensus government can give momentum to the the peace constitution drafting processes, the leaders said that they will try to work towards the same in an honest way.

The leaders made such commitment during a meeting of the parliamentary committee formed to oversee the five-point deal held in Singhadurbar Friday morning.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has already given a deadline of Aug 21 to form a national consensus government.

At the meeting, caretaker Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal clarified that he stepped down for the implementation of five-point deal that pave the way to extend the Constituent Assembly deadline by three months. He added that the UPCN (Maoist) should be responsible for the implementation of other pacts.

Also on the occasion, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal reportedly expressed his confidence that the peace and constitution-drafting processes will make tangible progress prior to Aug 31 deadline of CA.

Likewise, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala urged the Maoist to become serious towrds the twin tasks of peace process and statute drafting.

Similarly, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang noted that two of the five points--extending the CA tenure and PM's resignation--have been implemented but the other issues including new constitution drafting, peace process, national consensus government and Madhesis participation in Nepal Army are yet to be implemented.
