Leave peace process upon us, Maoists tells NC
KATHMANDU, AUG 17 - Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattai—two prime ministerial candidates for the future government—held a meeting in the Capital on Wednesday.
In the presence of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and NC Central member Bimalendra Nidhi, the Maoists reportedly urged the NC to leave the burden of concluding peace process upon their shoulders.
“Leave the responsibility of concluding the peace process upon us and take the government leadership after the completion of peace process,” Dahal urged Deuba.
Dahal claimed that it would much easier to conclude the peace process under the leadership of the Maoists, sources said.
In return, Deuba told Dahal that the Maoist-led government was unacceptable without the conclusion of peace, sources said.
