Case filed against journo assaulters; 48-hour ultimatum to arrest guilty
KHANDBARI, AUG 16 - An attempted murder case was filed on Tuesday against two persons allegedly involved in attacking Sankhusabha-based Journalist Kishor Budhathoki.
Police registered the murder attempt charge against Biaksh Rai and Rupak Rai, of Khandbari Municipality-9, based on the claim made by Budathoki’s maternal uncle Rajendra Karki against the duo.
An unidentified group had invited Budhathoki, the district correspondent of Annapurna Post, to a secluded place nearby his house on the night of Aug 11 before attacking him with Khukuri. The group was allegedly led by Bikash Rai.
Police Inspector Mahendra Raj Karki said that over a dozen cases have been filed against Bikash at the Khandbari Police Station.
“Bikash Rai is a professional goon,” said Karki. “He had committed many public crimes earlier.”
Injured Journalist Budhathoki has been undergoing treatment in Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar after he could not be treated in Sankhusabha.
Meanwhile, the Sankhuwasabha chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest the alleged attackers for attacking and injuring Budhathoki.
A FNJ meeting today issued such ultimatum to the police, saying that the security personnel failed to arrest the assaulters even five days after the incident.
In a statement today, the FNJ has warned of phase-wise agitation if the police fail to arrest Rai and his gang.
