Top brass meet inconclusive; Oppns tell PM's to quit
KATHMANDU, AUG 14 - A meeting of the top brass of the major three political parties including leaders representing the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) ended inconclusively on Sunday.
The meeting was summoned by Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal at his official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu to forge consensus on peace process and formation of national consensus government.
The NC had boycotted the big-three meet summoned by Khanal on Saturday saying that the SLMM leaders were not included in the talks. The NC demanded that the SLMM should be included in every crucial talks as it was the fourth politcal force of the nation.
However, the leaders failed to find common ground on the issues. The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and the SLMM advised PM Khanal to step down at the earliest.
PM Khanal had already committed to resign from his post if the peace process failed to gain significant progress by Aug 13 (Saturday). But he did not live up to his words after a meeting of the ruling parties yesterday suggested Khanal not to resign under the status quo. They had said that PM Khanal must not resign without the guarantee of a national consensus government so as to save the nation from uncertainity.
