KATHMANDU, AUG 12 - Stressing the need of representation of Dalits in each state organ in the new constitution, UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the present challenge was to safeguard the achievements of Jana Andolan.

He said this while releasing a book “Marxism, Dalit and Bisheshadhikar” written by Constituent Assembly member and Coordinator of Nepal National Dalit Mukti Morcha (NNDMM) Tilak Pariyar amid a function organised by Ratna Maya Literature Protection Committee in the Capital on Friday.

The writer (Pariyar) has taken the people’s movement to a height by adding in the knowledge he gained through practical struggles in the book, said Dr Bhattarai.

“If the 10-year-old people’s war couldn’t have addressed the agendas of Dalits, Jana Andolan would have never met success,” he said. “There is a need to address the problems of the Dalit community who are treated as the labour class amid racial and social suppression in the new constitution.”

At the function, Secretary of Maoist party CP Gajurel said the role of Dalit, women and marginalised communities was praiseworthy from the beginning of the people’s war and the Maoist party has been pushing ahead the agenda of ensuring special rights to Dalits for their liberalisation.

Coordinator of Central Publications Department of NNDMM Padam Sundas said the writer has closely looked at the Dalit movement in his book that contains 16 articles and 4 interviews.
