Locals call strike to protest SSB excess in Ilam
ILAM, AUG 11 - Local residents and business entrepreneurs in Ilam called a strike at the Mane Bhanjyang area on Thursday following the excess of Indian Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) on them.
The business entrepreneurs called the strike since Monday following the increasing hassles from the SSB personnel to Nepali traders in the area.
The SSB personnel would seize the ginger, cardamom, ghee and other milk products and harass the Nepali business entrepreneurs, said Chandan Pradhan, a Nepali business entrepreneur. The SSB personnel would not even spare the green vegetables taken to the border area.
They also collect illegal charges for the food prepared to be sold at different Indian markets. The traders said the nation is bearing tens of millions of rupees loss daily due to this, Pradhan added.
Locals from Sandakpur, Jogmai, Gorkhe, and Nayan Bazaar were hit hard due to the strike.
