Sood makes farewell call on PM, DPM
KATHMANDU, AUG 09 - Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood made a farewell call on Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar. He is set to wrap up from Nepal return after completing his tenure on Thursday.
PM Khanal, who is taking rest at his residence, lauded Sood for his role in taking the relations between the two countries (Nepal and India) to a new height during the complicated political transition in Nepal, PM’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Rajan Tuladhar informed. The prime minister hoped that the country would soon find way out of the difficult times through joint cooperation between all the political parties.
While saying that India’s economic prosperity has positive impact in Nepal, Khanal said that India and China should stress on cooperation between each other for a broader benefit of the entire Asia.
“I hope that the issues left to be agreed upon between Nepal and India would be concluded on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and friendship,” Tuladhar quoted the prime minister as telling Sood during the meeting.
Sood, in response, said Nepal is in high priority of India. He said his experience in Nepal was remarkable in his 35-year-long diplomatic career.
“Stability, democracy and economic prosperity are India’s priority in Nepal,” said Sood. “India wants to launch development projects for rapid economic development in Nepal.”
Sood's successor, Jayant Prasad, is arriving here in the Capital on Aug 13.
Likewise, Ambassador Sood met with Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav at his office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday. At the meeting, Sood reportedly thanked Yadav for the help rendered during his stay in Nepal.
He also expressed his desire to strengthen the Nepal-India friendship in the coming days.
“I thanked Yadav for all the cooperation that I have received during my stay here and expressed the hope that Nepal-India relations will continue to grow stronger in the future,” said Sood, talking to the media persons after the meeting.
Sood., who was appointed the ambassador to Nepal on April 2008, became most controversial ambassador of India and drew flak for his remarks in media. On several occasions, he was greeted with black flag by UCPN (Maoist) cadres.
