NEPALGUNJ, AUG 04 -

Twelve-year-old Jamuna Buda, who was admitted at Malnutrition Rehabilitation Centre of Bheri Zonal Hospital in a grievous condition two weeks ago, is on slow path to recovery, according to officials.

Jamuna was brought to the hospital in an extremely emaciated state. Weighing only 8 kg, she was unable to move.

Health workers attending Jamuna said she has started to move her hands and legs. She has also broke into crying, which doctors say is a sign of progress.

Bimala Poudel of the rehabilitation centre said Jamuna was being treated separately. “We are slowly building up the amount of her diet. From Sunday, we’ve started administering her rice, fluid and egg yolks.”  Born as the one of the seven children of Dipak Buda and Najara Buda of Serabang village of Kada VDC, Rukum, Jamuna started growing weak since the age of four.

With many mouths to feed, the poor couple could not provide even one square meal to the children, let alone nutritious diet. Jamuna’s condition continued to deteriorate and she even lost her eyesight.

Owing to the lack of funds, the couple could not afford treatment. Jamuna’s parents had borrowed Rs 10,000 to bring her to Banke.
