Dahal vents ire at Madhesi leaders’ mindset
KATHMANDU, AUG 03 - UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday expressed his concern over the Madhes-based parties’ mindset that they assume Madhes as their sole obligation.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Nepali Congress (NC) Morang-Kathmandu Contact Forum in the Capital today, the Maoist chairman said that the major three political parties—NC, Maoists and CPN-UML—were equally responsible for the Madhes.
“Mahanta Ji [Chairman of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Mahanta Thakur] said that the major three parties become one when it comes to the Madhes,” said Dahal, hinting at Thakur. “Is only Mahanta ji responsible for the Madhes? Are not there the Maoists, NC and the UML?”
Venting ire at UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal who delivered his speech before him, Dahal said, “Madhav ji raised issue of Young Communist League (YCL)—Maoists’ youth front—, what about UML’s Youth Association Nepal (YAN) then? There is no YCL now, the nation is terrorised by that Parshuram.”
YAN Morang Chairman Parshuram Basnet was the main accused in the attack on Biratnagar-based journalist Khila Nath Dhakal.
Dahal strongly criticized the other political parties’ tendency to hold the Maoists alone responsible for peace and constitution. “I mean to say that each and every party is equally responsible. I am just saying that there should not be the tendency to search mistake in others.”
He argued that the parties need not aim at the Maoists at a time when the party Central Committee has decided to give momentum to the tasks relating to the peace and constitution in practice. He expressed his commitment to take forward the given tasks of the peace process that could be completed before Aug 31.
The Maoist chieftain remarked that the tendency among the bigger parties to shoulder off the responsibility and hold the Maoists alone responsible has further aggravated the problems. He added every party should take the responsibility of their share.
