Elderly held for helping Tibetan get Nepali c’ship

NUWAKOT, AUG 02 -

Bhakta Bahadur Gurung, 66, has been arrested on the charge of helping a Tibetan girl acquire the citizenship certificate illegally.

Gurung was arrested after he was found to have helped Chhunta Tamang for the certificate by faking himself as her father.

Police also arrested Devendra Neupane, who masterminded the plot, and villager Krishna Prasad Thapaliya on the charge. Gurung was paid Rs 25,000 for the illegal act.

Gurung confessed to the crime and said he had done so at the behest of Neupane.

Gurung formerly worked for the Nepal Army and has six sons and three daughters.

Chhunta, who was arrested too, said Devendra had agreed to help her procure the certificate for IRs 60,000.
