Sunsari shut down as one injured in police-firing dies
SUNSARI, JUL 31 - Cadres of the Nepali Congress (NC) and Madhes-based parties enforced shutdown in Inaruwa, Sunsari district headquarters, and adjoining villages on Sunday, to protest death of one Sanu Yadav in police firing.
The organisers of the strike have been demonstrating in Inaruwa and other adjoining market places such as Harinagar, Dewangunj, Cuptangunj and Ramnagar from early today.
Sanu was injured in police firing during a clash that ensued after the police seized cotton being brought from India.
He died on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Science, Dharan following which the situation has become tense.
Marketplaces and educational institutions have remained shut in Inaruwa due to the banda.
The demonstrators have been demanding action against police Inspector Shyamal Subba, declare the deceased a martyr and stop police excesses on general public.
