Bodies of Nepalis killed in Deharadhun arrive home
MAHENDRANAGAR , JUL 25 - Bodies of five Nepali youths who were electrocuted while traveling in a bus in Dehradun, India were brought to Gaddachowki, Kanacahanpur district on Monday. The authority has handed over the bodies to respective relatives.
The unfortunate youths from far western district of Kailali were on their way to Simla in Uttarakhand, India in search of good fortune.
The deceased have been identified as Sukha Ram Chaudhary, 23, of Fulbari VDC-3, Bam Bahadur Chaudhary, 30, of Hasulia VDC, Kailali district, Dhan Bahadur Khatri, 23, of Kalimati, Salyan district, Manoj Chaudhary, 17, of Masuriya VDC-7 and Sher Bahadur Adhikari, 22, of Punma VDC-2 in Jajarkot district.
The Simla, Uttarakhand-bound bus came into contact with an overhead high tension electric wire, leaving all five Nepalis traveling on the bus hood dead.
Indian police based in bordering Banbas of India informed sub-inspector Netra Prasad Bhatta of Gaddachauki Area Police Office about the incident.
According to Bhatta, 44 Nepalis were traveling by the bus. They were forced to travel on the hood due to insufficient room inside the bus. The driver of the bus barred them from getting inside the bus and asked them to ride on the hood, Narayan Chaudhary, of Masuriya, one of the fellow Nepalis who returned with the bodies, said.
“One of the deceased got electrocuted while he was trying to climb up the hood. Right then he came in contact with a dangling wire above his head,” said Chaudhary. “The four others got electrocuted while trying to save their friend.”
“Five others, who were seriously injured, are undergoing treatment in Bikashnagar Community hospital,” added Chaudhary.
After the incident, rest of the Nepalis returned home.
Police constable Sudhir Kumar said the bus driver has fled the scene. “Although, no one has filed a complaint so far, necessary investigation would be carried out,” he added.
The exact number of deceased Indian nationals has not been ascertained yet.
