JANAKPUR, JUL 24 - Both the Nepali Congress and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Ganatantrik have claimed that the victim killed in Friday's school shooting at Jhatiyahi VDC of Dhanusha was their party member. Both the parties have blamed the CPN-UML for the incident.

On Friday, 45-year-old Ramekwal Mandal was killed when a gunman fired several rounds of bullets during the course of a clash between NC and UML activists participating in a meeting at Tilak Nandakumari Karki Secondary School.

NC Dhanusha President Ramsaroj Yadav claimed Mandal's death was premeditated and held CPN-UML activist Sushil Sah accountable for the incident. He said Congress was preparing to file a police case against Sah and others for the murder.

However, in an e-mail sent to a local journalist MJF-G chief Jay Prakash Gupta also claimed that Mandal was his party activist. He also accused UML of spreading terror and violence.

UML, meanwhile, refuted the allegation. In a statement released by Rajkisor Yadav, Dhanusha chief of UML, he claimed that his party's detractors were trying to frame the party activists.

Mandal's family has filed a police case incriminating six people, including UML district committee members Sah and Raju Gupta.

Police have arrested an unnamed suspect in connection with the incident and also recovered weapons from the house of Sah, the main accused.

SP Hari Bahadur Pal said a large number of police personnel have been mobilised to arrest the people involved in Mandal's murder.
