KATHMANDU, JUL 22 -

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Friday urged the agitating civil servants to call off their strike against "unjust hike" in their salary.

In a statement today, Minister Mahara said the demonstraitons staged by various civil servants' organisations have drawn a serious attention of the government.

He said demonstrations called by various civil servants organisations have taken a toll on the regular administrative work in Singha Durbar.

“I call on the agitating civil servants to call off the entire protest programmes considering the hardships faced by the citizens due to the protest,” said the Home Minister in the statement. He assured that the demands of government workers would be addressed through talks.

Various civil servants’ organisations, including UCPN (Maoist)-aligned Nepal Civil Servants Association and Karmachari Milan Kendra, Nijamati Rastriya Samitee, have been staging protests on Singha Durbar premises, the central government secretariat, demanding hike in their salary on a par with the price rise.

The agitating civil employees have accused the government of, among other things, failing to adequately increase the salary and perks, making permanent to temporary staff and providing allowances for clothes.
