Match fixing irks players
KATHMANDU, JUL 16 -
Two relegated clubs, Brigade Boys and Swoyambhu Club, have pledge to make football free of match fixing. Their request comes in the wake of the match between Machhindra and Bansbari Club, which suspiciously went in favour of the former. The win played a major role in helping strugglers Machhindra, who were tied with BBC before that match at 10 points, avoid relegation.
Before their final match of the campaign against each other on Friday, Brigade and Swoyambhu held a banner reading, “Stop Match Fixing, Save Football.” The two clubs also protested the practice by wearing a black arm bands during their match.
“We are not against Anfa, Machhindra or Bansbari. All we are saying is to keep the game clean and take strong action the guilty party,” said BBC Secretary Progesh Rai.
The Anfa on Thursday formed a five-member committee under the leadership of Mahesh Bista to probe all suspicious results in the league. This is the first time in history of the league the association is about to investigate in this sort of matter though the provision has been listed in Anfa’s clause no. 19 (cha).
Of the five members, DSP Bigyan Sharma, former footballer, has also been added to make probe effective. The other members include, Dhirendra Pradhan, Ganesh Chand and Rajaram Dhakal. The Anfa has vowed to take strong action against the guilty.
“The reports of the investigation will be taken seriously,” said Anfa Vice President Lalit Krishna Shrestha.
