Surkhet rural road budget freezes

SURKHET, JUL 14 - Budget meant for the upgradation of rural roads to the tune of Rs 7.5 million has frozen on the account of lack of progress in completing construction work on time.

The frozen amount is under the rural access development reform and decentralisation programme launched by the District Development Committee, Surkhet.

The DDC says upgradation of Ratanangla-Dharampokhara road was affected despite budget release. Only five percent of construction work worth Rs 10.16 million has been complete under the project, said DDC’s officer Hari Bahadur KC.

According to him, hesitancy on the part of many local people in lending their land for acquisition was to blame for the delay. However, this is not the first case of for development budget freezing in the district.

Similar is the case of community development programme. The total estimated budget for the programme was Rs 10.84 million, but the money hasn’t been released because of lack of work progress, KC said. RSS
