GALDHA (PALPA), JUL 12 -

Diarrhoea spreading at Galdha VDC in eastern Palpa has promoted doctors to keep their nose to the grindstone.

Swinging into action on Monday, a six-member medical team has started providing treatment to diarrhoea patients. The team led by Dr Prashanta Bajracharya has set up a health camp at Raikot Lower Secondary School.

Three persons died and score others were taken ill by an outbreak of diarrhoea in Wards 2, 3, 4 and 8 on Saturday and Sunday. The disease has been spreading at Raikot, Kharkadanda and Gabudanda, affecting about 150 families.

District Public Health Officer Mahendradhwoj Adhikari said that the public health office sent the medical team waking up to three diarrhoea-related deaths.

According to Dr Bajracharya, more than 60 patients received treatment on Monday. The team provided medicines, oral rehydration salt, zinc tablets and water purifiers to the sick persons.

Focal person of rapid response team Min Bahadur Bista said the medical team also conducted a health awareness programme. Before the arrival of the medical team, the patients were compelled to go to the private clinics owing to manpower shortage in the local sub-health post.

Dr Bajracharya suspected that filthy drinking water could be the main cause of the diarrhoea outbreak. The affected village is about 60 km east from Tansen, the district headquarters.
