KATHMANDU, JUL 11 - UCPN (Maoist) Standing member Dev Gurung has remarked that the government should bring the budget so as to control foreign investment in the country.

Speaking at a programme organised in the Reporter’s Club on Monday, the Maoist leader claimed what he called ‘uncontrolled foreign investment’ has put the national economy and investment in danger.

“There cannot be absolute equality in the name of open market policy,” Gurung said, “The policy of equality can only be implemented only if the national economy is strong.”

The Maoist leader stressed that the budget should adopt the policy of targeting the poor, creating employment opportunities and increasing export. He added that the economic crisis would not be resolved just by expanding the size of the budget.

Likewise, NC leader Prakash Sharan Mahat claimed the government brought the three-pillar economic as part of the plan to discourage the private sector. He alleged that the government budget is aimed at cheap popularity rather than resoling the economic crisis.

He remarked that the government insensitiveness towards making government services effective, controlling market inflation and developing infrastructure have given clues about the possible economy crisis.

“The government’s policy is not good, it seems the budget would rather be finished in a partisan manner,” he added.
