LALITPUR, JUL 11 - Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara has said on Monday that a Badi Development Committee would be formed for the welfare of Badi community.
Speaking at an interaction organised by Dalit Women’s Unity Centre and National Badi Women’s Rights Struggle Committee on Monday on the occasion of the 2nd National Conference of Badi women, Minister Mahara said he would talk to the prime minister and the finance minister to allocate enough budget for the development of the Badi community.
Separate units have been formed under the Home Ministry and the Police Headquarters to look into cases of Badi women, he informed, adding that such units will also be formed in 75 districts.
Stressing the need to end caste-based discrimination, he said social values and rituals that are against the Badi community have to be changed.
