Home Minister directs security to stay alert
KATHMANDU, JUL 05 - Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Tuesday directed the security officials to remain prepared to deal with any kind of situation after August 31—the extended deadline of the Constituent Assembly (CA). He remarked that the post-August 31 situation is likely to be unpredictable.
Speaking at the Western Regional Security Conference that kicked off here in Pokhara on Tuesday, the home minister issued such directive to the security heads of the regions.
“It is important for the security agencies to remain prepared to cope with the situation after August-31,” said Mahara, who is also the deputy prime minister.
Against this backdrop, the main opposition Nepali Congress has already announced to resort to strike after August 31 and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, among other parties, has been taking to streets prior to May 28--the previous dedline of CA--demanding that the House should be dissolved.
“The security bodies should adopt high security preparedness during the transition phase,” said Mahara.
Earlier, such security conferences had been held in Kathmandu and Biratnagar.
