Morcha tables note of dissent
KATHMANDU, JUL 04 -
The Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha on Monday registered a bill at the Business Advisory Committee of the Legislature-Parliament seeking amendment to the policies and programmes of the government saying the document had not addressed its concern.
According to Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party leader Jitendra Sonar, the policies and programmes of the government, presented in the House by the President on Sunday, did not address many important concerns raised by the Morcha. Sonar added that the document did not even mention 'Madhes uprising'. While the paper mentioned integrating Maoist combatants into national security forces, it didn't address the Morcha's concern of recruiting Madhesi youth in the Army, he said.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Morcha on Monday termed the letter sent by the Ministry of Local Development to political parties on forming Peoples' Representative Councils to run local bodies as impractical. According to TMLP leader Sonar, Morcha objects to the content of the letter, terming it as being against the spirit of the politics of consensus and the Interim Constitution. He demanded that the Interim Local Body Operation Working Procedure prepared by the ministry should be withdrawn, threatening to obstruct House proceedings.
